Netherlands

Worked closely with the Amsterdam Community Relations Board, representing the gay community, and the site to gain support in the gay community prior to the start of a Phase III preventive HIV vaccine trial

Switzerland

While working in the HIV Vaccine Unit of WHO/UNAIDS, assisted developing countries to establish HIV vaccine trial sites

Uganda

Worked with WHO/UNAIDS, the Government of Uganda, Mulago Hospital, and the Ugandan Joint Clinical Research Center to prepare for HIV vaccine trials

Rwanda

Worked with WHO/UNAIDS and the Government of Rwanda to prepare for HIV vaccine trials

Cote d'Ivoire

In collaboration with the Governments of Cote d'Ivoire and the U.S., assisted with the development of a research field station in Abidjan

Zaire

Directed Projet SIDA, a collaborative HIV research project of Zaire, the U.S. Government, and the Belgian Institute of Tropical Medicine

Thailand

Assisted in the development and conduct of epidemiologic/social-behavioral studies to assess the feasibility of a Phase III trial of a HIV vaccine candidate
Worked with the Thailand Ministry of Public Health, Bangkok city public health department, Mahidol University, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and WHO/UNAIDS to design and implement Phase I/II and Phase III preventive HIV vaccine clinical trials among high risk injecting drug users
Assisted in the design of a community-based Phase III trial with a preventive HIV prime-boost vaccine candidate among healthy HIV-negative adults

South Africa

Worked with the International Partnership for Microbicides and local institutions to develop sites and initiate clinical trials with vaginal gel and ring microbicides for the prevention of HIV infection.
